A Narrative of a Journey from Caunpoor to the Boorendo Pass in the Himalaya Mountains via Gwalior, Agra, Delhi and Sirhind, 1821-22 Volume. 2

Highlights:

This book, in 2 volumes, is largely a survey of the terrain and high mountain passes of the Himalayan ranges in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. When, in 1821, the authors set out, the geographical knowledge of these areas was quite limited. The route followed started from Kanpur (Caunpoor), and went right through Kinnaur, Spiti, and thence into Ladakh, and south-western Tibet. They visited the Mansarowar lake, and carried out their survey there too. This book is rich in geological, geographical, and climatic detail, with the terrain, temperature, altitude, and weather being closely recorded. The early commercial interests of the East India Company, in these mountain districts, too has been noticed. This work is a reprint of the 1840 edition.
